Alicia Vikander Admits She’s Disappointed By The Lack Of Women In The ‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot

A whole new generation is about to meet badass archaeologist and ancient tombs enthusiast Lara Croft when the Tomb Raider reboot premieres later this month. Angelina Jolie memorably portrayed the action hero in the early-aughts installment, but now it’s actress Alicia Vikander’s turn to carry the mantle in the newest version of the franchise.

The one problem the star has with the project? The lack of women.

During a recent appearance on BBC’s The One Show, host Alex Jones expressed her disappointment at the lack of female roles in the film, noting that other than Vikander almost every other role was portrayed by a man.

“I got to work with Kristin Scott Thomas, and she is an extraordinary actress, but me too. I agree,” Vikander said. “I was on this island going, ‘There’s not enough women, where are they?’ I was running around looking for them.”

You can catch Alicia Vikander in the latest Tomb Raider, which premieres on March 16th, but fans in need of some immediate Lara Croft action are in luck. Angelina Jolie’s 2001 version of the franchise is now available to stream on Netflix.
