Character Actress Margo Martindale Is Returning To ‘BoJack Horseman’

It’s been over a year and a half since viewers were treated to the antics of Character Actress Margo Martindale on Bojack Horseman. Last appearing in the Season 3 finale “That Went Well,” Margo was bemoaning the practicality of olive oil while being boiled at sea by a Pasta Pocalypse. Hollywood, man. Never a dull moment.

Her fate? Undetermined. The sea? Uncharacteristically delicious. And with BoJack renewed for Season 5, we wanted to get to the bottom of this aquatic mystery and find out if Margo’s character was dead or alive.

By the way, in case you’ve never binged the glorious sad-com that is BoJack, referring to the three time Emmy Award-winner as a “character actress” isn’t a put-down, it’s a reference to Martindale’s role, in which she portrays a warped version of herself. Martindale has earned acclaim with revelatory dramatic performances in a slew of small screen favorites — so BoJack plays with that, and turns her into a power-mad criminal capable of turning any situation to her dastardly advantage.

During a recent conversation with Decider about the upcoming second season of her latest dramatic venture — Amazon’s enthralling Sneaky Pete, which premieres this Friday on Prime Video — the conversation turned to comedy. Specifically Margo’s potential return to BoJack Horseman.

“I’m not dead!” Martindale exclaimed almost before I could get the question out.

The actress confirmed that she’s returned to the series, which is currently in the midst of shooting Season 5, and even though the esteemed character actress escaped twelve tons of pasta, her comeback may be short-lived.

“Yes. I’ve returned,” she said. “But let me just say… briefly. But it looks like there’s an opening.”

When we asked if that means her character is finally heading to that all-you-can-eat pasta buffet in the sky, Martindale coyly replied “I don’t know.”

The character’s future may be uncertain, but if there’s one thing we learned from BoJack Horseman, it’s that you should never underestimate Character Actress Margo Martindale.

Or as she says on the show, “Those limp dicks are about to find out what savvy film and television viewers have known for years: Character Actress Margo Martindale ain’t AFRAID OF NOTHIN’!”

The second season of Sneaky Pete premieres Friday, March 9 on Prime Video.
