With Seven Seconds, or if you’re into extreme brevity 7 Seconds, Netflix has produced TV’s latest harrowing crime drama. From Veena Sud, creator of The Killing, the show digs into the effects of the hit-and-run of a black teenager, hit by an off-duty cop driving down an isolated Jersey City road in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty and leaving him critically injured. A police cover-up gives way to an investigation that’s suffused with the racially-charged public climate, and the perspectives of all sorts of characters — the mother of the victim, the police investigator, the closed ranks of the local police — are reflected. Sud’s reputation as a TV creator is a bit complicated, given how much of a backlash there was to The Killing playing games with its plot. But Decider’s own Joel Keller says even given Sud’s reputation, the show gets a thumbs up. “The visuals and acting are so good, that it’s worth watching just for that.” Seven Seconds cast an actress like Regina King for a reason, and that’s to anchor a cast with the kind of gravitas that could hold a weighty series like this together.

But will it be back for a second season? And when?

Will There Be a Season 2 of Seven Seconds?

There has yet to be an announcement fro Netflix either way on a second season of Seven Seconds, but for a show that has been this well-reviewed, you’d think that it would stand a very good shot. It’s not a flashy series, but it’s a rigorous and well-acted one.

Will Season 2 Continue the Same Story?

Despite the fact that we don’t know for sure whether Seven Seconds is definitely coming back for season 2, Veena Sud says she has a definite plan for the season. She told CNN that should it get renewed, she’ll be treating the show like a true anthology, covering a different story with a different political issue at its center, though she still plans to use Jersey City as a backdrop. This makes Seven Seconds feel even more reminiscent of ABC’s American Crime, which aired three seasons telling three separate stories with an overlapping cast (including Regina King, who won two Emmys) playing new characters each time.

When Will We Get Seven Seconds Season 2?

Netflix hasn’t announced anything yet, but early 2019 would be a good bet if season 2 is indeed a go. We’ll continue to update this space with further details.
