Woman Crush Wednesday: Rowan Blanchard, Reigning Queen of Generation Z

During the last three years, Rowan Blanchard has transitioned from a quirky Disney Channel star into an incredibly smart and sophisticated young activist. And at only 16-years-old, she has won over practically every Millennial and Gen Z-er with her powerful social media voice and influence. Without a further ado, let’s give it up for this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday, teen-queen Rowan Blanchard.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Rowan Blanchard

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Rowan is the leading example of what young people today are capable of, mainly due of her political activism on social media. She is an exceptionally smart and informed young woman and unafraid to have a voice about social and political issues. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you’ve seen or at least heard about Rowan’s political activism on Twitter and Instagram. She’s inspiring AF. She is openly an advocate for human rights, often using social media to voice opinions about women, LGBTQ+, and people of color.

And Rowan’s activism isn’t only limited to the online world. In addition to acting, the young star has dedicated her career to speaking up as a voice for young people that want to see change in their future. She plans on attending the March for Our Lives rally in Washington D.C. this month, after admitting that the Parkland teens inspired.

To be quite honest, Rowan Blanchard is coolest 16-year-old around. Homegirl’s even published a book! She also openly credits everything she knows about politics and human rights to other teenagers she’s seen on the internet. She’s truly the voice of Gen Z.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: The young actress is most well known from Disney Channel’s spinoff Girl Meets World, where she plays Cory and Topanga’s lovable tween daughter, Riley Matthews. Just like her TV-legend parents, Rowan’s character stumbles through her teenage years alongside her best friend, Maya (played by Sabrina Carpenter). And fun fact: the two actresses also sing the show’s theme song!

In the last year, she has starred in indie film A World Away and guest starred in the ABC comedy The Goldbergs. A young seven-year-old Rowan also appears in the 2010 film The Back-up Plan, starring Jennifer Lopez.
