This ‘Nailed It’ Trump Cake Fail Will Give You Nightmares

Nailed It! has fast become one of our favorite shows on Netflix. The madcap food competition pits three amateur bakers against each other in a vainglorious battle to see who has the goods to reproduce a complex cake masterpiece. In Season 1, bakers stumble over cakepops and fudgey animal spas, princess castles and cocktail-themed cupcakes. And it’s all hilarious.

But Nailed It! saved what might be its craziest challenge for the very end. In the final episode of the season, “In Your Face!,” competitors are asked to recreate a life-like Donald Trump cake, and the results were…well, honestly better than you’d expect.

In case you are unfamiliar with Nailed It!, the final round bakes tend to be laughably impossible. In fact, my favorite part of the show is watching the contestants’ faces fall in overwhelmed horror when their challenges are unveiled. Of course, baking the President is all the more nerve-wracking because there is an obvious political implication here.

Lest you think that all the participants were having a joke at Donald Trump’s expense — after all, host Nicole Byer told them to pay attention to details like the “puffy jowls” and “the wispy hair” — only one of the three bakers admitted to anti-Trump bias.  Atlanta resident Kymberli Talton said, “For some reason, he is the President of the United States. But I’m putting politics aside. I can’t let who or what the cake is really distract me from this damn money.”

However, at least one Trump supporter was also in the house. Venezuelan immigrant Anabell Pica admitted in her confessional for voting for Trump and feeling flustered by the challenge.

So how did they do? Well, see for yourself. Philadelphia native Kyle Levonian produced this patriotic pile of pastry:

But Kymberli’s Trump Cake might be the greatest fail in Nailed It!’s short history. Instead of looking like the Commander in Chief, her cake looks like a Martin Van Buren/Mason Verger nightmare. The big ears, the unnerving chin, the “ring-around-the-rosies-a-pocket-full-of-posies” plague eyes… Bask in its breathtaking horror:

And better yet? Kymberli was so happy with it, she was dancing.

In the end, Anabell won the $10,000 grand prize, while we, the viewers at home, won a hearty laugh over a horribly hilarious cake fail.
