It seems like a great new title pops up on Netflix every other day, and today is no exception. In Search of Fellini, a coming-of-age adventure penned by Peter Kjenaas and The Simpsons voice actor Nancy Cartwright, recently dropped on the platform, and it’s something special. Introverted small-town Ohio gal Lucy (Ksenia Solo) doesn’t quite feel at home in the real world, but when she discovers the strange films of Federico Fellini, she decides to set off across Italy in hopes of finding him, finding pieces of herself along the way.

In Search of Fellini is rife with imagery that reference Fellini’s works and rich visual style, but it’s enjoyable for Fellini-first timers and superfans alike. There’s an immersive nature to the entire film; by the end, you’ll feel as though you too have traveled through Italy, collecting postcards in Rome, Venice, and Verona.

It’s rare that a coming-of-age story can be both moving and artistic, but In Search of Fellini does both with ease. You’ll likely see your own journey through Lucy’s eyes, emerging from the film with your own take of what it all really meant. It’s a vibrant, whimsical, and well-written film, and manages to avoid all the predictability of typical Hollywood fare.

Treat yourself to something a little different and settle in for the evening with this flick. You can thank us (and Fellini) later.
