James Corden Stole From Mariah Carey’s House — And She Deserved It

Late night TV games are usually good for a giggle or a gross out, but this week’s edition of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts on The Late Late Show with James Corden gave us one of the best celebrity theivery stories of all time.

When asked by guest John Boyega if he’s ever stolen in his life, James Corden totally came clean and admitted he had. “This is completely true and I’ve never told anybody this,” he prepped the audience, as most of us probably thought he was gearing up to admit he took a candy bar as a kid.

“I once stole a candle from Mariah Carey’s house,” Corden revealed, to shocked faces from Boyega and Drew Barrymore and big laughs from the studio audience.

“These candles, they say “Mariah Carey” and there’s a butterfly on them,” he said, providing what sound to be very likely details about the diva’s decor.

And look, he actually had a good reason for swiping it. The host headed to her house to film a Christmas Carpool Karaoke segment, and as he explained,  “We were supposed to film at 3, and I was told get there at 4, and they’ll probably be ready. And then I waiting, just in her living room, until about 6:30 just on my own and I thought, well, I’m gonna take this candle for my time and I still have it today.”

Not that he wasn’t entirely unapologetic though, as he offered, “I’m sorry, Mariah, but you had loads!”

Now, if you missed this tidbit this week, it’s probably because the internet was too busy buzzing about Barrymore’s ranking of her co-stars from the same segment. For the record, from most to least talented it goes, 1. Adam Sander 2. Hugh Grant and 3. Jake Gyllenhaal — all to avoid eating a turkey testicle!

Totally fair on her part, and while some might debate that order themselves, the only worse ranking from this segment was anyone who believed that revelation was anywhere near as interesting as what Corden provided.

While he ended up eating the turkey testicle to avoid naming the worst behaved celebrity to stop by the show, confessing you stole personal, and personalized, property from someone as intimidating as Mariah Carey, takes some real balls, sir. It make for an incredibly fun, and totally LOL-worthy TV moment, and honestly, he wasn’t wrong to do it. Not that his behavior will ever speed up her beautification process so that future home guests don’t repeat the move, because Mariah moves on her own time, but Corden totally endeared himself to everyone, perhaps maybe even Carey herself, by letting that secret slip. Maybe, you know, ease up on the thievery, but keep those unexpected moments coming.
