Matt Bomer Bought Out A Hometown Screening Of ‘Love, Simon’ Because Sometimes Nice Things Happen

Matt Bomer wants you to know what love is. On Thursday, the actor and new director announced over Instagram that he and his husband, Simon Halls, had purchased all the tickets at a screening of Love, Simon for their hometown of Spring, Texas.

Directed by Greg Berlanti and starring Nick RobinsonKatherine Langford, and Miles Heizer, the coming-of-age romance follows Simon Spier (Robinson), a 17-year-old boy who just wants a great love story. The film follows Simon as he navigates hiding his homosexuality from his family and friends and embraces a mysterious online romance with one of his classmates. The film also stars Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel and currently has a 92 percent critical and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Please come see @lovesimonmovie in my hometown of Spring, TX for free! @halls.simon and I bought out the whole screening for you,” Bomer posted on Instagram. “This is an important movie, and a really good one. I know you’ll love it so come watch for free this Sunday!” The post also explains where interested people can pick up tickets for the screening.

According to an interview with EW, Becky Albertalli, author of Simon and the Homo Sapiens Agenda, says she wanted the film to reach small towns similar to Spring, Texas. “If Love, Simon makes it there and it’s mainstream enough that everybody’s watching it, then a kid who’s not out yet can see that it’s not a big deal and they get to feel seen. That’s my hope.”

Bomer has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBT community for years. He was given an Inspiration Award for his work at the GLSEN Awards, and he’s been involved in several projects that present the community in a positive light, including The Normal Heart and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. If you’re looking for a great movie to check out this weekend, check out Love, Simon. It’ll make Matt Bomer happy while potentially giving a heartfelt coming out film a wider reach, and those are two pretty good incentives.

Love, Simon is now in theaters.
