Will Smith Rapped the ‘Fresh Prince’ Theme Last Night, and It Was Magical

Last night, history was made (or maybe remade). Jimmy Fallon‘s big guest for the night was none other than classic celebrity superstar and charisma machine Will Smith. After a light-hearted and fun conversation about Smith’s Instagram habits, Fallon asked Smith to do something I think we all subconsciously wanted Smith to do — sing classic TV theme songs.

Fallon and Smith started with one of the most iconic themes of all time, The Golden Girl‘s theme, because if you’re going to start something start strong. From the first moment they were on stage together, the duo was all about energy. Fallon was as bubbly as he always is, and Smith toed the line between being a bit too cool for this, and up for anything. From there they cycled through some more classics, including the Good Times theme song, I Dream of Jeannie‘s opening number, Three’s Company‘s theme, and Full House‘s memorable song about milkmen, paperboys, and even MTV. During one extra whimsical segment, the show switched into a black and white filter and tackled The Andy Griffin Show.

However, Fallon being Fallon, he saved the best for last. The second the beat for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starts, you can see Smith pause for a moment, his years as the prince of all things freshness likely spinning through his mind. Then Smith dove into his story about how his life got flipped, turned upside down with all the passion and energy that theme song inspires in college bars across America. Smith got the crowd involved in the number, throwing down his ’90s verses while running up the aisles of the studio audience. He even ended on one of his iconic “Wooo!”s.

The entire clip is magical, joyous, and far better than whatever you’ll see on the news today. I highly recommend checking it out.
