If you watched ABC’s revival of Roseanne last night (which you can now stream on Hulu, BTW!), you were probably left asking one question. No, not “why is Roseanne Conner a Trump supporter?” That actually makes sense, people! You were really wondering, “What happened to David on Roseanne?”

That’s a good question, as David Healy–played by Johnny Galecki–was a major part of the second half of Roseanne’s original run. He first appeared in Season 4 and then stayed with the show for the next five years, all the way through to the original series finale. He went from being Darlene’s boyfriend to actually moving into the Conner’s basement, then being Darlene’s ex-boyfriend and practically a member of the family. The show ended with Darlene and David married and the proud parents of newborn baby Harris Conner Healy.

So… where is David on Roseanne now?

The premiere episodes don’t really answer the question. All we know is that Darlene and David have split up, and Darlene has moved back to Lanford from Chicago with her two kids (the aforementioned, now-teenaged Harris and her little brother Mark). The revival’s showrunner Bruce Helford has said that David and Darlene have been separated for around six years, but you only know that if you read interviews. Don’t worry, your Roseanne viewing won’t always need to be a two-screen experience. Answers are coming in a future episode!

We know for sure that Galecki will appear in one episode of the new season, reprising his role as David. And while he didn’t pop up in the premiere episodes, you can see a bit of Galecki and Sara Gilbert together in his one episode in this teaser trailer:

It makes sense that Galecki couldn’t be a part of the new 9-episode season, either, as he’s still working on a little sitcom juggernaut called The Big Bang Theory. But instead of writing David out completely, Galecki came back for one episode. That’s great! Of course we don’t yet know when that episode will air. So, that’s frustrating!

But rest assured, Roseanne fans, you will get an episode with David at some point during this run and all your questions will be answered. And if they aren’t, fingers crossed the revival gets another season and Galecki comes back for more!

UPDATE 4/4/18: We have a date! Johnny Galecki will return to Roseanne on April 17 in an episode titled “Darlene v. David.”
