‘Dark’ Season 2 On Netflix: Everything You Need To Know

When it comes to twisting and ambitious sci-fi dramas, there are few shows better than Netflix’s Dark. The German saga had everything obsessive TV fans could ask for — an amazing cast, a time travel plot that actually made sense and incorporated actors who looked like their past and future selves, beautiful cinematography, and a haunting, epic score that made this inherently creepy show even creepier. Dark had it all, so we have to ask: When can we expect a Season 2?

Created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the series was the first German-language original to come to the platform. The show follows the fictional German town of Winden, which is thrown into chaos after children start disappearing. Here’s everything we know about the crazy mystery and when we can expect new episodes. Spoilers ahead.

Will there be a Season 2 of Dark?

Yes. Netflix has already renewed the series for another season, which will begin production sometime in 2018.

When will Season 2 of Dark premiere?

We don’t know a definite premiere date yet, but based on the show’s timeline, it will likely take a little while. Netflix originally ordered the series in February of 2016. Principal photography and production lasted from October of 2016 until March 2017. Season 2 will certainly take less time, but based on this timeline, it seems possible but unlikely we’ll see Season 2 in 2018.

Who will be in Season 2 of Dark?

Fans probably remember that Dark’s first season ended in a shocking way — with Jonas (Louis Hofmann) appearing in the year 2052. Though the show is now firmly in the future, writer Jantje Friese has revealed it won’t stay there.

“We’ve done our thinking, and the second season would put more light on other people in the character structures we haven’t been through that much, while not losing some of the ones that you kind of came closer to. But also introducing new ones, while maybe killing some other ones,” he said in an interview with IndieWire. So that likely means we’ll be seeing different versions of Jonas, Helge, Claudia, Ulrich, Bartosz, Father Noah, Martha, and everyone else we’ve come to love and be confused by.

What was the deal with Dark‘s Season 1 ending?

It was a crazy, wild ride. If you’re still trying to parse through all of the time-travel drama, check out Decider’s guide to what the heck happened in that finale.
