‘Girls Trip’ on HBO: Tiffany Haddish’s Funniest Moments

We all took a little journey last year with Tiffany Haddish and the movie Girls Trip. A good-time summer release that was likely never expected to make much of a dent instead turned into 2017’s funniest comedy and the best time a lot of people had in a movie theater. Haddish was the clear breakout star, a crystal-clear takeaway from even the trailer; what followed was half a year of critical praise, skyrocketing fame, a (ultimately quixotic) campaign for an Oscar nomination, and a New York Film Critics Circle award that managed to be the highlight of the entire awards season.

With Girls Trip now available to stream on HBO GO it will be very hard not to keep revisiting the film again and again, if only to hopscotch our way through Tiffany Haddish’s best and funniest scenes. To give you a head start, we picked out Haddish’s five funniest scenes as we see them. Don’t worry, there are plenty more to get to after these.

Booty Hole

This was the biggest and most obvious once, since this was in the trailer and all. No single line of dialogue sold more tickets in 2017, I am certain, than “It’s a booty hole!”

Fuckin’ with Gladys Knight

New Orleans gets off on a heated note as Dina (Haddish) jumps all over Ryan’s cheating husband. After mistaking Stewart’s aunt for some trifling woman, Dina breaks a wine bottle open, threatens him, then gets kicked out of the hotel. The kicker, as she’s hollering on the street about what a terrible hotel this is, is the real kicker. “A ghost tried to fuck me,” is a rare gem of a line (though “You look like an ugly, dirty Mr. Clean” is up there).

Vengeance Plans

Related to the above, when Dina pledges her loyalty to Ryan and gets suuuuper intense explaining all the things she’d do to punish Stewart. Haddish elaborated on this scene with some of what was cut from it during her epic 17-minute acceptance speech at the New York Film Critics Circle dinner in January.

Selfies with Estelle

Essence Fest was a highlight in the film, if only for Queen Latifah’s face-off with Iyanla Vanzant. But Dina also got some celebrity time in, man-handling Estelle into a selfie opportunity.

Grapefruits

It feels like enough time has passed for us to stop this whisper campaign about the grapefruit scene. Call Me By Your Name had its peach scene. Tiffany Haddish made sure we’d never look at a grapefruit the same way again.
