Kaitlin Olson Says Dennis Reynolds Will Return to ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ for “Some Episodes”

It has been over a year since the Season 12 finale of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia aired, during which Glenn Howerton’s character Dennis Reynolds says goodbye to “the gang” for good and leaves for North Dakota to start over with his new family. This has raised the question of whether or not Howerton will return to the series, a topic which the actor/director has been purposely vague. Thanks to Kaitlin Olson (who plays Dennis’ sister Dee on the FX original series), however, fans can now take comfort in the fact that the irreverent character will appear again.

“I do know that Glenn Howerton is coming back for some episodes,” Olson told TheWrap yesterday. “I don’t know the specifics, but I do know how he’s being introduced back in, and it is absolutely hilarious.”

Howerton now stars in NBC’s AP Bio, but he has insisted that the new project has no effect on his participation in the series, which also stars Danny DeVito, Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney. “Telling you whether or not Dennis is coming back would be giving away the plot of the next season,” Howerton wrote on Twitter in January. “So… to clarify once and for all. I don’t know if Dennis is coming back. He left the bar. We take that plot choice seriously.”

“I don’t know why the narrative continues to be centered around whether ‘I’m’ coming back. I’m here. It’s whether or not ‘Dennis’ is coming back. Dennis could be gone forever,” he added.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has aired 134 total episodes across its first 12 seasons. It has already been renewed for a record-breaking 13th and 14th seasons, the first of which will air sometime in 2019.
