If you’ve seen even one family sitcom, you know how it goes. While the dad lounges on the couch, it’s up to the mom to cook, clean, and generally transform a germ-infested pig sty filled with children into some place that’s livable. Well Splitting Up Together‘s Lena (Jenna Fischer) sees this gender imbalanced nonsense and has no time for it.

Pegged to tonight’s episode, the above exclusive clip shows Lena abandoning her chores to prove to her kids that she can be just as lazy and “cool” as her carefree non-partner Martin (Oliver Hudson). It’s a hard sell for the chronically type-A Lena, but Fischer sells it. Splitting Up Together follows a divorcing couple that’s forced to live in the same house because of financial constraints. While one of them is the on-call parent for the week, the other figures out how to be single again from their impromptu garage loft. But as they start living their separate lives, Lena and Oliver slowly start to realize that maybe they shouldn’t be apart after all.

The sweet rom-com is based on the Danish sitcom Bedre skilt end aldrig and was created by the original’s creator Mette Heeno and Emily Kapnek (As Told By Ginger, Suburgatory, Selfie). Though there have been glimpses all season of Lena and Martin contemplating getting back together, “Soup Jealous” seems like it’s more concerned with the woes of single parenting. While Lena goes on another date with a guy she really likes, Martin is stuck with a sick little boy, Milo (Sander Thomas). Cue one hapless dad and lots of soup. The episode will also guest star Trent Garrett as Wes, Lena’s hot date.

Hopefully these crazy divorcing kids will figure it all out. Until they do, we have more charming freak outs from Jenna Fischer to look forward to. Watch the above clip to get ready for tonight’s episode.
