11 Things to Watch on 4/20 That Will Make You Lose Your Mind

For most people today is just another day, but you know it’s so much more than that. It’s 4-20, the day when it’s all but socially acceptable to call in “sick” to work, load up on snacks, settle into your couch, and light up.

Here at Decider, we’re all about selecting the best shows and movies to accompany your trip. We’ve already published our round-up of the best Netflix shows to stream for the occasion, curated by Decider’s own Josh Sorokach. However, not all stoners are made equally. If 4-20 is less of a special occasion for you and more of a time to really embrace the glory of cannabis, then regularly stoner watches probably aren’t going to cut it. You’re an experienced smoker looking for a trip that will make you repeatedly question both what you’re watching and your own existence, and we have your back. From insane animated watches to double Nic Cage, here are the shows, movies, and YouTube videos you need to stream if you want your 4-20 to be a truly memorable event.

Could these shows and movies give you a bad trip? Possibly. But that’s the risk you take if you really want to get messed up.

The "Teddy Perkins" episode of 'Atlanta'

Every episode of Donald Glover‘s FX comedy is trippy in some way, but “Teddy Perkins” is its own warped nightmare. The episode follows Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) as he tries to buy a piano from a stranger. That’s how he meets the eccentric Teddy Perkins, a rich and terrifying older man who may or may not be Glover in white face. The episode left sober audiences everywhere panicking and asking “What the hell is happening?” so your trip isn’t going to be any different.

When you’re high there’s nothing you want to do more than marvel at how small you are compared to this huge world. On that front, Werner Herzog‘s documentary on volcanoes more than delivers. As far as nature documentaries go, it’s not the best. But boy is it fun looking at volcanoes.

'The Fly'

David Cronenberg is the king of messed up movies, but The Fly may be one of his most disturbing. The film follows a scientist, played by a young and hot Jeff Goldblum, as he experiments with transportation. But halfway through his experiments, the unthinkable happens — a fly lands in the pod and fuses with Goldblum. The rest of the movie is a disgusting, gross-out mess that may or may not be a parable for the AIDs epidemic. Don’t watch while eating.

'Ballmastrz 9009' and 'SuperJail!'

If you’re looking for something warped to watch, look no further than the work of Christy Karacas. Set in the year 9009, Ballmastrz takes place in a world where there’s no wars — just one really messed up game. SuperJail! follows a similarly dark premise, focusing on the deadliest and most messed up prison imaginable. Both series are unabashedly weird, filled with organ-spewing deaths, and yet oddly beautiful. They’ll make your heart race for sure, but they’ll also make for one crazy night.

'The Twilight Zone'

This anthology series was creepy when it first premiered in 1959, and its only gotten more unnerving with time. Each episode explores another supernatural or sci-fi mystery, and while some can be silly, others can be really, really freaky. Throw on “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” and get ready to scream.

'Adaptation'

What’s better than one Nicolas Cage? Two Nicolas Cages. The stuff of film jokes becomes a reality in Adaptation, a movie that simultaneously proves and disproves it’s impossible to make a good movie out of a gardening book. Directed by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman, if this doesn’t blow your mind, nothing will.

'It Follows'

This supernatural thriller will give you a reason to be paranoid of everyone. Starring Maika Monroe and Jake Weary, the horror film revolves around a curse that can only be passed from person to person by having sex. However, if a victim is unable to pass along the disease, someone will methodically track them down and kill them. It Follows takes the uneasiness everyone feels from STDs and having someone stalk them and ramps it up to 11.

If you love watching cartoons while high, consider this a step up. Directed by René Laloux, this 1973 sci-fi film follows an encounter between two alien species — the Oms and the Draags. It’s unmistakably beautiful, but its halting animation and echoing use of sound feels living inside of a Beatles album on a bad trip.

'Unedited Footage of a Bear'

Forget “Too Many Cooks.” The more unnerving short Adult Swim has ever produced is a twisted murder-mystery disguised as a allergy medicine commercial. “Unedited Footage of a Bear” is messed up; there’s really no other way to put it. Light up, brace yourself, and press play. And don’t forget to click on the links in the video.

Footage of abandoned amusement parks

Thanks to YouTube you’re only a few clicks away from exploring dozens of theme parks Disney and other companies don’t want you to see. All of these videos are about the same — a dude (it’s almost always a dude) walks around an overgrown park in the middle of the night and provides a running commentary about what he thinks different things were supposed to be. However, there’s something about these places designed for children being completely abandoned that’s really unnerving. Bright Sun Films and The Proper People are two of the best abandoned park channels.

'Killer Klowns from Outer Space'

That’s the thing with weird sci-fi and horror movies from the past — they only get more disturbing with age. That’s certainly the case for this 1988 cult classic about clowns and puppets that will haunt your dreams. Get ready to repeat the question “What am I even watching?” for an hour and a half.
