‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Renewed By ABC For 15th Season

Grey’s Anatomy continues its march through ABC’s history books. The veteran medical drama has been officially renewed for a 15th season. That makes it ABC’s longest-running primetime scripted series, eclipsing sitcom 1952 sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriett, which aired for 14 seasons. ABC’s second longest-running primetime drama is NYPD Blue (12 seasons). I hear Grey’s renewal was revealed to the cast and crew at the show’s Season 14 wrap party tonight.

Grey’s Anatomy has a special place in my heart and millions of viewers feel the same way,” said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. “Thanks to fiercely loyal fans who have been on this journey since the beginning, and new generations of viewers who continue to discover the joy and drama of Grey Sloan Memorial, the show is as strong as ever.”

Grey’s Anatomy renewal was considered a foregone conclusion after the series’ star, Ellen Pompeo, several months ago signed a new two-year deal to continue. Season 15 will not be without casting changes —  two popular, long-time Grey’s Anatomy cast members, Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew, are departing at the end of the current fourteenth season. All other series regulars will be back.

Fourteen seasons in, Grey’s Anatomy continues to be a ratings powerhouse. It is ABC’s No. 1 drama in adults 18-49 and is tied with ABC’s The Good Doctor as the No. 2 broadcast drama on TV. What’s more, Grey’s is up by 3% in total viewers vs this same point last season – for its most watched season since 2013-14.

Created and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy follows Meredith Grey (Pompeo) and the team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, who are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis. They seek comfort from one another, and, at times, more than just friendship. Together they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.

The series, from ABC Studios, stars Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce and Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca.

Betsy Beers, Mark Gordon, Krista Vernoff, co-showrunner alongside Rhimes, William Harper, Zoanne Clack, Debbie Allen and Fred Einesman are executive producers.
