Is Anthony Hopkins’ Bizarre Selfie Dance Video a Sign of the Apocalypse?

Stars, they’re just like us! They like to post bizarre, goofy, and bizarrely goofy things to social media with absolutely no context! Of course when the star in question is Sir Anthony Hopkins, a man known for playing some of the most horrifying movie villains of all time (you know, like Hannibal Lecter), “bizarrely goofy” can quickly slide into “goofily sinister” territory.

That’s exactly what happened over the weekend when the 80-year-old actor hopped on Twitter to post… something. It’s… it’s definitely something! What it is, well, that’s up to you to figure out. Objectively, it’s a video of Hopkins in a black shirt and tight close-up dancing around to some brassy music, all while making unsettling faces. The only context given: “This is what happens when you’re all work and no play…”

But what does it all mean?! Knowing Hopkins’ filmography, which is filled with intense dramatic work including a recent stint on HBO’s Westworld, it’s hard not to read this as Hopkins performing some sort of social media calling card of a deranged serial killer or malfunctioning evil robot. Or maybe it just is what it is: an 80-year-old killing time on a Sunday by posting ridiculous stuff online, hoping for a few faves and RTs. He definitely got those faves and RTs, that’s for sure, as people broke their brains trying to figure the video out.
