Bruce Campbell Is “Retired As Ash,” So Stop Tweeting At Netflix

Stop trying to make Ash vs. Evil Dead happen at Netflix, y’all. While the show came to a close after 3 seasons on Starz, fans weren’t accepting that as the end. And so, as diehard fans do, they took to the internet to encourage others to rally for the show to be revived for season 4 at Netflix. Except one guy put an end to that pretty quickly.

Ash Williams himself, Bruce Campbell, confirmed that he is “retired as Ash” and appreciated the effort, but it would no longer be necessary to petition Netflix for the pick up. And hey, it wasn’t a misguided attempt: the show racked of plenty of new fans once it hit the streaming service.

But not all is completely lost. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Campbell even entertained the idea of a crossover with Jane Levy’s character from the Evil Dead remake as recently as 2016.

“As absurd as that statement out of your mouth is, never say never,” replied Campbell. “We’ve learned that now. We didn’t think we’d be her making a TV show 25 years after the last Evil Dead movie. I mean, that should have been a forgone conclusion — that franchise is dead. Didn’t happen. As you know, success begats success, so if the show stays on the air for a few years, they’re gonna go, ‘Okay , time for a movie.’… So you make a movie, and maybe you do make it a crossover. And I think that was very foreign to Sam Raimi at one point, but I think he sees the universe — it’s bigger now. You center it with Ash and you can do whatever. And Jane Levy is just great too on top of it. She a very talented actress. So I would kind of love to see the old gummer and the new ass kicker come together. So it’s not a terrible idea.”
