‘Southern Charm’ Star Shep Rose Picks His Ideal Date Night Films

Southern Charm gent Shep Rose is no stranger to pop culture’s finest offerings. He enjoys a good book and a great documentary, and we wanted to tap into that exquisite taste to find out what some of his favorites are.

When Shep stopped by the Decider offices today, we played a round of Shep’s Recs with him, where he revealed his favorite things to watch with a lady, when he needs a laugh, and when he’s dozing off for a nap. Check out the full Instagram Live interview, and see below for his picks and where to stream them.

Elvis Presley: The Searcher: “I was really impressed and surprised to learn a lot of things about Elvis,” Shep told us about the recent HBO documentary. Available now on HBO Go and HBO Now.

Wild Wild Country: Certainly not the last documentary Shep recommended as he stated, “I like to learn things.” Available now on Netflix.

Sinatra: All or Nothing at All: A bit of a go-to for this guy, Shep’s shown this documentary to select special ladies when they’ve stopped by his place and said, “I showed it to my parents too and they loved it.” Available on Prime Video.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers: Runnin’ Down a Dream: One of Shep’s favorite bands are chronicled in a long but enthralling doc. Available on Netflix.

The King of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters: When he’s looking for a good laugh, this is the flick he turns to. Available now on Prime Video.

The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling: “It was so good, so sad, such an interesting life,” Shep said of the Judd Apatow-directed HBO documentary. Available now on HBO Go and HBO Now.

Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon: He recommends this one to a lot of his friends, and not just because he shares the same name with the documentary’s subject. Available on Prime Video.

Exit Through The Gift Shop: “As you can see, I like documentaries a lot,” Shep said of this classic doc. Available on Prime Video.

Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns: This one opened his eyes to America’s favorite pastime and “was just amazing.” Available on Prime Video.

And as far as what he’s not watching? “I don’t like any superhero movies, I think that they’re ridiculous,” he told us. He’s also not on board with a recent Martin Scorsese-Leonardo DiCaprio flick, either.

“I accidentally saw The Wolf of Wall Street on a date. I hated that movie. It should’ve been called ‘Partying for Dummies’. Every frat dork loves it so that means it’s terrible.”

He also shared with us that his recent Netflix binges include Dark and Mindhunter, but when he’s looking for something a little less stimulating, he watches golf to fall asleep.

And to all the ladies out there thinking their tastes might sync up with Shep’s, it doesn’t sound like you’ll get a chance to compete for his love on another season of RelationShep. “I don’t think I want to,” he said when asked about another round of the dating reality show. “I think I’ve said everything I need to say. I don’t want to be redundant in life.” But please, these movie recs prove this guy is always on the quest for something new and exciting.

Southern Charm airs Thursday nights at 9pm ET/PT on Bravo.
