Hulu Orders Mindy Kaling’s ‘Four Weddings And A Funeral’ Comedy To Series

Hulu has given series orders to Four Weddings and a Funeral, inspired by the 1994 British romantic comedy film, written and executive produced by The Mindy Project creator, executive producer and star Mindy Kaling and executive producer Matt Warburton; and Ramy, starring comedian Ramy Youssef, from The Carmichael Show team of star/co-creator Jerrod Carmichael, co-creator Ari Katcher and production company A24.

Like the movie, the limited series Four Weddings and a Funeral will follow a group of friends as their lives intersect through five events. Kaling and Warburton will executive produce alongside Jonathan Prince, Howard Klein for 3 Arts, and Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title. The series comes to Hulu from MGM Television and Universal Television, with MGM serving as the lead studio.

Ramy is based on the real-life experiences and comedy of Youssef, who stars. Co-created and co-written by Youssef with Katcher and Ryan Welch, the series takes viewers into the world a first-generation American Muslim who is on a spiritual journey in his politically divided New Jersey neighborhood. Ramy explores the challenges of what it’s like being caught between an Egyptian community that thinks life is moral a test, and a Millennial generation that thinks life has no consequences. Carmichael executive produces with Katcher, Welch and A24’s Ravi Nandan.
