'Wild Wild Country' Season 1

Directed by Maclain and Chapman Way and executive produced by the Duplass brothers, this is one of the craziest documentaries Netflix has produced since Making a Murderer. The six-episode series follows the Rajneeshpuram community, a cult that took over Wasco County, Oregon in the 1980s. Though the series revolves around Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (Osho) and his controversial teachings, it’s his outspoken and dangerous personal assistant Ma Anand Sheela who is the real focus of this docu-series.

'Queer Eye' Season 1

We always suspected that Netflix’s reboot of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy would be good, but nothing prepared us for how nuanced, loving, and beautiful Queer Eye is. The new version of this classic makeover show intentionally paired the new Fab Five with subjects who supported Trump or who were uncomfortable with homosexuality. The resulting show brought opposing people together. It was exactly the watch we needed in this divisive political landscape.

Netflix's reboot of Norman Lear's beloved sitcom has proved to be a major hit with critics and casual viewers alike. The series revolves around a Cuban-American family living in Los Angeles and their everyday problems, but the series is much more than a simple family sitcom. One Day at a Time focuses on family drama, yes, but it also touches upon topics like PTSD, mental illness, racism, sexual identity, and more.

Executive produced by Norman Lear and starring Justina Machado and Rita Moreno, Netflix’s sitcom about a single mother and her Cuban-American family was always a sweet watch. But in its second season, it became even more compelling and heart-warming. The Alvarez family hasn’t let us down yet, and we can’t wait for Season 3.

Though the directors and subjects are never the same in this docu-series, the focus on exposing wealthy people who abuse their power is always the same. Each episode of Dirty Money follows a different scandal, from the company around Martin Shkreli to a shocking story about a maple syrup heist. Featuring episodes from Alex Gibney, Jesse Moss, Erin Lee Carr, Kristi Jacobson, Brian McGinn, and Fisher Stevens, this series will leave you screaming at your TV.

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100%
What do you do if you find out you're pregnant -- but you've never had sex? That's the basic premise of Jane The Virgin, a series that has quietly been dishing up A-plus content for four years. The CW series has yet to get the awards recognition it deserves, but fans (and critics, judging by its Rotten Tomatoes score) love its comedic highs and dramatic lows.

For four seasons now Jane (Gina Rodriguez) has been charming us with her upbeat personality, flair for the dramatic, and stressful romantic life. But this past season was one of the best the show has ever seen. Decider’s Jade Budowski called this past season “near-perfect,” adding “there’s no better binge than the gloriously soapy, genuinely emotional, beautifully written Jane the Virgin.”

Love The Great British Bake Off? This isn’t that show. Hosted by the ever-delightful Nicole Byer, this competition show pits the worst bakers across America against each other and asks them to recreate professional desserts. The results are sometimes sad, sometimes horrifying, and always hilarious. If you need a pick-me-up, this Netflix original is the best option out there.

'Black Lightning' Season 1

The CW’s latest DC show started on a high note and it never let up. Starring Cress Williams, the series follows the superhero Black Lightning as he’s forced to come out of retirement. Rather than an origin story, this latest series is more like a family drama that’s unafraid of thorny storylines connected to race and sacrifice. It’s a CW superhero show all grown up, and it’s a Certified Fresh binge.

'A Series of Unfortunate Events' Season 2

This past season of the Neil Patrick Harris-led children’s show really started to find its footing. Whereas the first season seemed it was taking too many cues from the Jim Carrey movie, Season 2 was always intense and delightfully wicked. You’ll want to look away from this twisted series, but there’s a good chance you won’t be able to.
