There was a time when it seemed like all of Netflix’s original shows were guaranteed at least two seasons. Now that time has passed. As Netflix’s decision on Seven Seconds has proved, the streaming service has no problem canceling even one season shows that underperform. But for all of the news items and think pieces about Netflix’s expanding original library and its willingness to cancel shows, there are a lot of Netflix originals that have been trapped in the middle. They haven’t officially been canceled, but Netflix hasn’t announced new episodes for these series either.
Welcome to Netflix limbo.
Below are all of the Netflix shows that have uncertain futures. Recent Netflix series whose futures are still unclear like Altered Carbon, Santa Clarita Diet, and Lost in Space were left off this list because they’re so new Netflix is likely still making a renewal decision. Instead, this list is for older series that appeared on Netflix and have had to continue living on the platform somewhere between renewed and canceled. Though Decider reached out, Netflix did not comment on the cancellation or renewal statuses of any of these shows.
Some of these series will likely be forgotten, destined to live on Netflix as a surprising discovery for future viewers. Some have been rebranded as miniseries, and though they haven’t officially ended, it seems like their story is complete. And a lucky few seem like they have new episodes in their future.
'Ask the StoryBots'
Seasons: 1
Episodes: 6
Based on characters from the StoryBots educational apps and videos, this children’s series was an early win for Netflix’s younger programming. It premiered in 2016 and was nominated for an Annie Award, was a finalist for a Peabody Award, and was nominated for six Daytime Emmys. The series also has a special, called A StoryBots Christmas.
Will there be new episodes?: At the moment, it seems like the series was just intended to be a miniseries. In an interview in 2017, animator Nate Theis said that there were currently no plans for a Season 2.
UPDATE: Looks like there’s going to be more Storybot adventures in our futures! The official account for the franchise pseudo-secretly told me there are more episodes to come this year.
'Atelier'

Episodes: 13
Developed by Fuji Television, this 2015 Japanese drama focuses on a small high-class lingerie design house called Emotion. The series is a coming-of-age tale that follows a young employee as she figures out how she fits into the world of fashion. Comparisons have ben made between the owner of Emotion and American Vouge’s Anna Wintour.
Will there be new episodes?: The comedy-drama is currently listed on IMBD as a miniseries, so it seems unlikely that there will be new episodes. However, that may change. It’s possible for miniseries to develop into full series.
'Blazing Transfer Students'
Seasons: 1
Episodes: 8
Based on the manga of the same name, Blazing Transfer Students watches like an insane live-action anime. The 2017 comedy takes place in a high school where all disputes are resolved through fighting and everyone has crazy powers.
Will there be new episodes?: Though creator Kazuhiko Shimamoto has been releasing new chapters of the manga and even released a two-part manga to coincide with the Netflix series, there has been no news about a possible Season 2.
'Buddy Thunderstruck'

Episodes: 12
Created by the same studios that made Robot Chicken and Care Bears, this 2017 stop-motion animated comedy follows a truck-racing dog who’s all about a good time. The series is intended more for children than adults and has been nominated for both Annie Awards and Emmys.
Will there be new episodes?: There hasn’t been any news about a Season 2. However, Netflix did release a surprise episode of the show, called “The Maybe Pile.” It wouldn’t be too shocking if there were even more episodes in our future.
'Care Bears and Cousins'

Episodes: 12
Based on the beloved children’s characters, this computer animated series follows the Care Bears through another friendship-filled adventure. The series premiered in November of 2015.
Will there be new episodes?: There hasn’t been any news about a third season.
'Chasing Cameron'

Episodes: 10
YouTube star Cameron Dallas’ reality series premiered on Netflix in late 2016. The series follows the social media influencer and Vine star as he travels across the world while on tour.
Will there be new episodes?: Netflix hasn’t said anything about a second season, but star Cameron Dallas said that there would be a Season 2. According to the social media star, this new season will focus more on family.
'Crazyhead'

From the creator of Misfits, the six-part British horror-comedy premiered on Netflix in late 2016. The series follows two down-on-their-luck women who become demon hunters.
Will there be new episodes?: Channel 4 pulled out of the project, leading series star Susan Wokoma to tweet that there would not be a Season 2. However, since Netflix is involved in the series and has given additional seasons to Channel 4 shows like Lovesick, perhaps not all hope is lost for a second season.
'Dawn of the Croods'

Based on the movie The Croods, this 2D animated kids series premiered on Netflix in 2015. The series takes place before the events of the movie and follows Eep and his prehistoric family.
Will there be new episodes?: The latest season premiered in July of 2017. Though there’s been no news of a Season 5, it’s not completely out of the question.
'Degrassi: Next Class'

Episodes: 40
Netflix’s take on Degrassi was one of the streaming service’s first wins when it came to teen-focused original entertainment. Though all of the students are different, the general tone and focus on prevalent teenage problems is the same as the original high school drama.
Will there be new episodes?: Netflix hasn’t confirmed a Season 5, but series co-creator Linda Schuyler has spoken up about brainstorming ideas for seasons five and six. Next Class has a passionate fan following. If it gets canceled, we’ll hear about it.
'Easy'
Seasons: 2
Episodes: 16
Created and directed by Joe Swanberg, this adult rom-com premiered in 2016. Each episode follows a different couple as they struggle through relationship drama, threesomes, and owning their own sexuality.
Will there be new episodes?: It seems unlikely that this is the last we’ll see of Netflix’s mumblecore comedy about relationships. After the premiere of Easy’s first season, Swanberg released Win It All on Netflix, and the director has praised the streaming service. Considering that Easy is typically well-received, it seems likely we’ll see more episodes.
'Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan and Jane'

This animated kids show puts a modern spin on a classic story. In order to save his jungle home, the wild Tarzan has to team up with the city girl, Jane.
Will there be new episodes?: There’s been no news about a Season 2.
'Erased'

This 2017 Japanese drama follows Satoru, a young man who goes back in time to save people who were never supposed to die. But are his powers enough thwart the kidnapping that will ultimately end his childhood friend’s life?
Will there be new episodes?: Since this live-action show is based on an anime of the same name, there’s enough story to tell a second season. There’s been no official news about a Season 2 at this point in time.
'Estocolmo'

Episodes: 13
Divided into two time periods, this 2016 police procedural drama is the first Argentine series made for Netflix. The series follows a reporter who tries to get to the bottom of a series of human trafficking networks.
Will there be new episodes?: There has been no news about a Season 2. But as Season 1 wasn’t very well-received, it seems unlikely we’ll see more of this series.
'Flaked'
Seasons: 2
Episodes: 14
Starring and created by Will Arnett, this 2016 sad-com follows a recovering alcoholic in Venice. But as the series progresses, it becomes more and more apparent that this self-help guru is more interested in lying to the people around him than helping them.
Will there be new episodes?: There hasn’t been any news about a Season 3. Considering Season 2’s conclusive ending, if we never see another episode of this show it will be sad but narratively OK.
'Hibana: Spark'

This 2016 Japanese drama follows two comedians who discover the meaning of life and friendship through comedy. The series is based on the novel Hibana by Naoki Matayoshi.
Will there be new episodes?: There’s been no news about a Season 2, and the series is listed on IMDB as a miniseries, implying that there will be no new episodes. However, the series was the first Netflix series to be broadcast on traditional television abroad.
'Home: Adventures of Tip & Oh'

Based on the DreamWorks movie of the same name, this animated kids show premiered in 2016. It follows Tip and Oh as the adventure through a world filled with aliens and humans.
Will there be new episodes?: There hasn’t been any official announcements from Netflix, but Season 4 does have an IMDB page.
'Julie’s Greenroom'

Starring Julie Andrews, this 2017 children’s talk show follows Andrews as she leads a workshop for kids at the Wellspring Center for the Performing Arts. There are lots of puppets and even more sweet lessons.
Will there be new episodes?: There is currently no news about a Season 2.
'Justin Time GO!'

A spin-off of the popular Canadian animated series Justin Time, Justin Time GO! premiered in the spring of 2016. The series follows a little boy named Justin as he sorts through real-world problems.
Will there be new episodes?: The original order for the series was only for 13 episodes. There has been no news about a potential Season 2.
'Lego Elves: Secrets of Elvendale'

Though this 2017 children’s series is connected to the Lego universe, its animation doesn’t look like it. The Netflix series picks up where the 2015 series leaves off, following a group of magical elves.
Will there be new episodes?: So far, there’s been no news about a potential Season 2.
'Master of None'

Aziz Ansari’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning comedy follows Dev, a New York-based actor who loves good food and is still trying to figure out adulthood. The series has been critically praised for its innovative episodes and nuanced explorations of race and relationship dynamics.
Will there be new episodes?: Ansari has said that he wants to do a third season of the show, but he wants to take some time to unplug first. It seems very unlikely that Netflix would cancel this critical gem.
'Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories'

Set in a diner in the middle of the night, this Japanese 2016 comedy follows what happens at one restaurant at night. The series is based on the manga Midnight Diner.
Will there be new episodes?: So far there have been no announcements about a Season 2. However, the original Midnight Diner series lasted four seasons, so it’s certainly possible the Netflix series will follow in its footsteps.
'My Only Love Song'

This 2017 South Korean rom-com follows a spoiled actress who goes on the adventure of a lifetime after she runs away from her new show. There’s a time-traveling van involved and all sorts of hijinks.
Will there be new episodes?: So far, there hasn’t been any official news about a Season 2.
'Neo Yokio'

Created by Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, this 2017 anime-inspired series is one of the weirdest shows you can watch on Netflix. The celebrity-packed comedy follows Kaz (Jaden Smith), a wealthy demon hunter who is tasked with protecting modern-day New York.
Will there be new episodes?: There hasn’t been any official announcements about a Season 2, but in February Koenig said the series was “not dead.”
'Netflix Presents: The Characters'

This 2016 comedy acts like a showcase for eight different comedians. Each comic is given a full episode to do whatever they want, and the results are often pretty crazy.
Will there be new episodes?: Unlike Netflix’s The Standups, there’s been no news about a Season 2. It’s possible that this series was intended to be more of a miniseries than a continuing series.
'Project MC2'

This live-action kids show about smart teens using science first premiered in 2015. Since then, the series has sporadically released new episodes.
Will there be new episodes?: Netflix hasn’t said anything about releasing a Part 7 for the series. However, because Part 6 didn’t end on a cliffhanger some fans have wondered if the show is officially over.
'Richie Rich'

This live-action Netflix shows for kids was released in 2015. The series takes the iconic super-wealthy character and follows Richie and his friends as they get into trouble and spend lots of money.
Will there be new episodes?: There has been no news from Netflix about a Season 3 for the show. However, since there haven’t been new episodes since 2015, a Season 3 seems unlikely.
'The End of the F***ing World'

This 2018 Netflix and Channel 4 collaboration follows James, a teenager who believes he may be a sociopath and who really wants to kill his new girlfriend. What starts off as the premise of a horror movie quickly transitions into a sweet and quirky rom-com that’s more nuanced and emotional than you would expect.
Will there be new episodes?: Neither Netflix nor Channel 4 have announced any plans for a Season 2, but there’s a pretty good chance a new season will happen. The series was a success for the streaming service, generating critical attention and social media buzz. But the thing really working in the show’s favor is its ending [Spoilers ahead]. Though the comic ended with James dead and Alyssa killing herself, the series ended with both characters possibly alive.
'The Standups'

Much like The Characters, The Standups watches like a showcase for relatively unknown comedians. Each episode gives a different comedian 30 minutes to perform their set. From Aparna Nancherla to Gina Yashere, the series watches like a spotlight on rising comedians.
Will there be new episodes?: There have been no announcements for a Season 3, but the series seems like it’s been working well for Netflix, gaining a fair amount of critical attention.
'W/ Bob and David'

Starring David Cross and Bob Odenkirk, Netflix’s unofficial revival of Mr. Show was one of the platform’s first comedy successes. The first season premiered in 2015.
Will there be new episodes?: Netflix hasn’t said if there will be a Season 2, but the series definitely isn’t canceled. In 2016, Cross said that he was open to making new episodes. The problem is just finding time when the duo can film together.
'We’re Lalaloopsy'

Released on Netflix in 2017, this MGA Entertainment, Splash Entertainment, and Netflix series follows a group of rag dolls. They have fun and go on adventures in Lalaloopsy Land.
Will there be new episodes?: So far there’s been no word on a Season 2.
'White Rabbit Project'

From the team behind Mythbusters, White Rabbit Project is another series dedicated to making science cool. The reality show premiered in 2016 and follows three scientists who try to make the impossible possible be using technology to experiment with mind control, superpowers, and more.
Will there be new episodes?: As of August of 2017, it looks like White Rabbit Project is over. Though there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Netflix, the Twitter page for the show tweeted that no new episodes were expected.
'Word Party'

This 2016 children’s show follows four adorable baby animals who just want to have fun. The series if from Jim Henson.
Will there be new episodes?: There hasn’t been any official word about whether subscribers can expect a new season. However, since Season 3 premiered in 2017 a year after Season 2, it’s possible that a surprise drop is planned for this kids’ show.
