‘Baywatch’ Is Now on Hulu and Prime Video in All Its Shirtless Glory

If you need a laugh and some inspiration for swimsuit season, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video have you covered. The Baywatch reboot, starring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, and Priyanka Chopra, is now on streaming, so now’s a good time to dive into this action comedy about lifeguards.

Based on the classic TV series of the same name starring David Hasselhoff, the 2017 version of Baywatch follows a team of lifeguards in Florida who are forced to accept a new recruit, Efron’s Matt Brody. No one wants the party-hard Olympic-winning swimmer around including Brody, but because of some suspect community service orders, Brody needs to stay. The team is forced to come together after Mitch (Dwayne Johnson) finds some drugs littering his beach. Can they find the perps? Or will they get too distracted by their hatred for each other and their love of penis jokes to bring in the bad guys?

Obviously the answers to those two questions are yes and almost. Baywatch wasn’t an especially well-received movie. The reboot currently has a critical score of 18 percent on Rotten Tomatoes as well as an audience score of 55 percent. There’s a reason it didn’t premiere at Cannes.

But as far as forgettable and light summer comedies go, it’s a pretty decent watch. In recent years Efron has made a career out of playing idiots who are somehow lovable despite their suffocating arrogance, Kelly Rohrbach gives a bit of dimension to her role of “hot lifeguard,” and Chopra is a treasure. Add in Johnson’s overwhelming charm, and it’s a comedy that almost works!

If you’re looking for something mindless and “pretty OK” to throw on while you clean your apartment or get in some pre-summer crunches, Baywatch is your jam.
