Cord And Tish’s Royal Wedding Jam Is The Perfect Pre-Ceremony Surprise

Sure, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding will be the event of the year. Weddings are fun, love is grand, and who among us is immune to the charms of a royal ceremony? That said, the event I’m most interested in watching on Saturday isn’t so much the wedding, but the coverage of Harry and Meghan’s big day, specifically HBO’s The Royal Wedding Live With Cord and Tish.

Portrayed by SNL vets Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon, Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan memorably provided hilarious commentary during the Rose Parade. This Saturday, the duo return to add their incisive witticisms to the most anticipated wedding of 2018. To promote their upcoming HBO special, the dynamic twosome dropped by The Tonight Show to not only chat about the upcoming ceremony, but to perform an original song they wrote in honor of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding.

It’s incredible. Accompanied by The Roots, the rollicking single begins with a meet-cute:

“Far off in a fairy land where lords and ladies dance
There lived a sad and lonely prince who dreamed of true romance
From a land across the mighty sea, a lovely maiden came
She was a true American, and Meghan was her name!”

We eventually get to the song’s catchy hook — “Wedding of the century. Gonna make it happen!” — before Cord moves on to the smooth jazz portion of the single by playing a bit of saxophone. You can watch them perform the song above and check out their interview with Jimmy Fallon below.

My favorite part of the song, which should honestly be the official anthem of the royal wedding, is the random photos in the background. They begin by showing snaps of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but soon the photos turn random as they display Ed Sheeran, English Muffins, and, for some reason, former MLB slugger Mark McGwire.

Bravo.

The Royal Wedding Live With Cord and Tish will air Saturday, May 19 at 7:30 a.m. on HBO. The special will also be replayed at 9:45 p.m. the same day.
