All The Harry Potter Movies Are Leaving HBO At The End of June

Well, this is worse than when Dobby died! It’s sadly true, Potterheads. HBO announced today that its entire catalogue of Harry Potter films will be leaving the service at the end of June 2018. That means you only have a month and a half to binge your way through the Wizarding World.

The latest hit film set in JK Rowling’s Wizard World, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, debuted on HBO last August, and then in a veritable streaming coup, HBO managed to nab the rights to all eight Harry Potter films. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II hit HBO’s library on New Year Day this year. All nine films will leave HBO on June 30.

Will the Harry Potter library find its way back to HBO in the future? Will another streaming giant elbow its way in? Or is it possible that WP or Pottermore are thinking of branching out into their own streaming app? We’ve reached out to HBO for comment, but early word is that the licensing deal has simply run its course.
