‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ Is Everything A Summer Show Should Be

Bravo’s Below Deck Mediterranean is your summer obsession. It just is. Now in its third season, the show has never been better, and it’s sure to keep you drooling, laughing, and gasping all summer long.

For those who are unfamiliar with the reality show, it’s about Captain Sandy, a likable but stern badass boss who runs the show on a beautiful yacht sailing the Amalfi coast, and her crew of yachties which includes returning cast members Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier, Chef Adam Glick, and a handful of fellow stews and deck hands, all of which will flirt, bicker, make out, and bitch each other out over the course of the season (and sometimes all in one episode). Oh, and in their spare time they are tasked with making the boat nice and pretty for their rich charter guests looking to have a damn good time.

Now that Vanderpump Rules has finished its seemingly never-ending season, fans of that show should find much they enjoy in Below Deck Med as well. There are love triangles, hookups, plenty of tears, and always a solid supply of drama aboard the ship. Plus, in this workplace, there’s a built-in hierarchy that adds a sticky layer of tension to the group.

And not only are these yachties exceptionally attractive, but they know how to party their faces off as soon as they have a free night in town. Their drama mostly boils down to hurt feelings and bruised egos, which gives the show a frivolous edge that keeps it addictive without getting to heavy.

Oh, and then there are the guests. The first two episodes of the season focused around a group of bitchy women that demanded nuts and then grilled cheeses and pasta and rich husbands and ultimately, unsurprisingly, could not be satisfied, which only led to the viewers rooting for the yachties who ended up working together right off the bat. That will, of course, change throughout the season, which wasted no time getting juicy as hell.

Below Deck Med was made for summer viewing, not just because it takes place aboard a beautiful boat sailing under the sun, but because it feels like you’re right there with them, even when you’re watching from an air-conditioned room on land. It’s an hour-long vacation each week where the food looks incredible, the ocean looks inviting (well, when it’s not storming), and the hot people are intriguing. If you’re not actually going to Italy this summer, Below Deck Mediterranean provides the second best escape to the sea.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Tuesdays at 9pm ET/PT on Bravo.
