Netflix’s ‘3%’ Is Getting a Season 3

Get ready for a revolution! Netflix’s Brazilian dystopian drama 3% is getting a Season 3, and if Season 2 was any indication, this upcoming season is going to be more stressful than ever.

The dystopian sci-fi thriller comes from Pedro Aguilera and is set in a world that’s been divided in half. Most of the world lives in the Inland, a rundown community where resources are limited and crime runs rampant. But once every member of the Inland turns 20, they have a chance to compete for a place on the Offshore, a highly advanced society filled with limitless healthy food and the most advanced technology this world has ever seen. So what’s the catch? For anyone to move from the Inland to the Offshore, they have to endure a series of grueling tests that challenge their intelligence, loyalty, and values. There’s a lot of attractive young contestants, young adult murder, betrayal, and a divisive rebellion. 3% is a bit like The Hunger Games meets Saw but with more moral ambiguity.

On Twitter, Netflix announced that 3% would be returning for Season 3. The streaming service’s official YouTube channel also posted a video to announce this upcoming season. The 30-second video shows Rafael (Rodolfo Valente), Joanna (Vaneza Oliveira), and Michele (Bianca Comparato) standing against a white background as their shadows form the logo for 3%.

The inclusion of these three characters is likely a nod to what we can expect from this new season. Though most of Season 2’s main characters were connected to the rebellion to overthrow the balance between the Inland and the Offshore, Rafael, Joana, and Michele were the most outspoken proponents of this movement, known as the Cause. Last season ended with these three characters going in three very different directions; but the implication of that season’s finale and this trailer is clear. Things are about to change in the world of 3%, and these three are leading this new cause. 3% is just one of Netflix’s ambitious international originals that’s gained a significant cult following, much like Dark and Money Heist.

For now, we’ll just have to imagine what horrors lay waiting for 3%’s many traitors. Season 3 of the series will premiere sometime in 2019.
