Sound the alarm, Midgardians, for Thor: Ragnarok has taken Netflix by storm!
That’s right, the third–and by far the wildest–installment in Marvel’s Thor series is now available to stream on Netflix. Directed by visionary goofball Taika Waititi (the genius behind such gems like Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows), Thor: Ragnarok reveals what the Norse god of thunder was up to while all of his buddies were busy fighting in Captain America: Civil War (also available on Netflix, at least until June 25). We catch up with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston), stranded on a garbage planet and on opposite sides of the Gamesmaster’s (Jeff Goldblum) favor. But Thor ain’t alone on his quest to save Asgard from the clutches of the goddess of death Hela (Cate Blanchett). He’s got Valkyrie (the endlessly charismatic Tessa Thompson) and he’s got a hulk (Mark Ruffalo, back as the befuddled Bruce Banner).
Thor: Ragnarok is unlike any other movie in the Marvel canon. It’s giddy and weird, big and bright, pleasingly simple but epic in scope. It’s a Thor movie, except this time around the film is channeling ’80s Kurt Russell movies instead of Shakespeare. Even if you’ve never seen the other Thor movies, even if you’ve never seen another Marvel movie, this right here is the romp of a lifetime and well worth streaming.
Now that the movie is on Netflix, you can relive its best moments time and time again (Korg and Miek, best friends forever!), or you can fall in love with this far-out action flick for the very first time. Just fire up Netflix, search for “Thor: Ragnarok” (if it’s not right there in one of the front page carousels), and hit play. This is the movie you want if you want to forget all your troubles and be taken to a far away place.
