It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly two years since Goliath debuted on Amazon, but here we are. The Billy Bob Thornton-starring legal drama took us by surprise with its eight episodes after debuting in fall of 2016, establishing itself as a unique presence in the crowded genre arena. David E. Kelley and Jonathan Shapiro (who also gave us Boston Legal and The Practice) are in their element here, delivering a hard-drinking lawyer down on his luck who happens to stumble upon the case of a lifetime thanks to the help of one plucky Patty Solis-Papagian (Nina Arianda). The show may be all over the place, but Thornton comes through and elevates it to a truly interesting place, ensuring that even the most cliched of scenes are compelling. (His Golden Globe win for the role speaks to this).

How did Goliath: Season 1 end?
After spending much of the season coming up against his former law firm, Cooperman McBride, boozy Billy surprisingly starts to get his life together, and things build to a pretty bittersweet conclusion. Billy delivers a riveting final argument to the jury in the case of wrongful death against the firm and ultimately wins, seeing the demise of Callie (Molly Parker), Cooperman (William Hurt), and Borns Technology.
Good does seem to triumph, but with all the blood, sweat, and tears that it took to get there, our victorious protagonists still don’t seem completely satisfied. It’s a bittersweet, ambiguous ending, one that shows us that things aren’t always wrapped up nice and neatly with a bow.
Where did we leave our characters at the end of Goliath: Season 1?
Billy and Patty froze out Brittany, having learned that the defense had gotten to her, Cooperman’s stroke and loss in court pretty much left him without anything, and Lucy went back to him, despite their… complicated relationship. Post-victory against Cooperman McBride, Billy seems to retreat to his old ways, picking the bottle back up and sitting on the beach, unsure of what’s ahead. While it might make more sense for him to be having a celebratory toast, he instead walks into the sea, clearly conflicted about everything that’s just happened – and all the loss they’ve experienced. Might he take over the firm that was once rightfully his? We’ll have to wait and see…
What is Goliath: Season 2 about?
The second season of Goliath kicks off with another storyline entirely, seeing McBride take a mysterious murder case pro bono (much to Patty’s dismay). He’s pulled back into the dark underbelly of Los Angeles and soon realizes that this case is not all what it seems, and the team once again must face a deadly conspiracy during their quest for justice.
Who is in Goliath: Season 2?
Core cast members Thornton, Arianda, Taymonde, Hopper, and more, all return to their respective roles. New additions include Mark Duplass, Morris Chestnut, Ana De La Reguera, and James Wolk.
Will there be a Goliath: Season 3?
There’s no way to know quite yet! That all depends on just how many people watch Season 2, how this season wraps up, and what Amazon’s got in the pipeline. With all the showrunner shakeups the series has gone through, it is unclear exactly what the future holds for Goliath, but till then, all we can do is keep binging our favorite biblically-proportioned legal drama.
