Christina Aguilera is Completely Unrecognizable as a Subway Busker (Except for Her Voice)

Last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Christina Aguilera tried to go subway busking in disguise, but New York had her number. You just can’t hide that voice.

The subway busking sketch has become a staple in Fallon‘s celebrity bits arsenal. Basically, Fallon and his star-of-the-day don ridiculous costumes in an attempt to look like normal people, play songs in the subway, and try to see if anyone notices that they’re not actually normal. It’s a sketch that’s all about the celebrity reveal. However, Christina Aguilera‘s time on the busking stage was cut short. The second she started singing, people started circling.

The video highlights something we typically take for granted — Christina Aguilera is a jaw-droppingly amazing singer. Even when she’s trying to look like a hat-clad regular Joe, her voice dominates the scene. She was practically born to be a star.

Sure, there are other explanations for why people flocked to Aguilera, Fallon, and their tiny glasses that has little to do with Aguilera’s incredible voice. There’s the fact The Tonight Show chose the subway station closest to Rockefeller Center, a building known for the very network that airs The Tonight Show and that rarely features subway singing. There are Aguilera and Fallon’s disguises, which try just a little too hard. This doesn’t even mention Aguilera’s recently released album.

But for a minute, brush aside these criticisms and try to see Aguilera’s late night sketch for what it is — a bit of art bringing strangers together. There are good things in the world. You can watch the sketch above.
