Bill Maher Calls For #MeToo Movement For The Police, Justifies NFL Players Kneeling For Anthem

Last night on HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher, the host went on a rant during his New Rule segment of the show, demanding that we take action against abusive cops who commit police brutality, as well as those who defend them. During his monologue, Maher called for a #MeToo movement for the police while addressing the recent string of violent videos that have surfaced. You can watch the full clip below.

The host, who claimed that cops “do a Riverdance on your skull and then when they’re putting you in the car they say ‘watch your head’,” frustratingly asked for the police to “make up their mind.” His strong commentary was met with audience applause at every turn.

“We need to stop saying most cops are good like we know that to be true,” Maher proclaimed. “I hope it’s true, but I need some evidence, unlike cops.”

He added: “The bad ones, not the good ones. Problem is we don’t really know what that percentage is. That’s the question I’m asking tonight – if so many cops are good why are there so many videos of them being bad?”

One of the viral police brutality videos that Maher focused on was the disturbing footage of an officer violently punching a 20-year-old woman in the head on a New Jersey beach while another officer held her down. He later claimed the woman simply had an open container.

“We need a #MeToo movement for the police,” Maher insisted. “If Garrison Keillor has to go away for putting his hand on a woman’s back, perhaps we should decide what should happen when two men pin a woman down in the sand and punch her in the face.”

He then referenced two other recent videos, police beatings which occurred in Oregon and Arizona. “That’s a lot of videos of guys who barely exist doing shit that hardly ever happens. Not to mention the Milwaukee Buck’s Sterling Brown getting tased for a crime white people can’t even imagine: existing while black.”

Justified Maher, “This is why NFL players want to take a knee – not because they hate the Anthem.” The studio audience cheered in agreement.

The host then made sure to mention the fact that he personally knows some excellent cops and cannot make a claim for all, but wants new cops to know what they’re getting into. “If you expect nice, don’t be a cop,” he stated. “Be a Mountie. Police work is like proctology, assholes come with the job. It doesn’t give you the right to abuse people – you’re a cop, not a flight attendant.”
