Amazon Knows That You’re Streaming ‘Real Housewives’ & ‘Sex And The City’ In Secret

Are there certain shows you wouldn’t be caught dead watching on your big screen TV at home? Are they too racy for the kids? Too superficial for your roommates? Too revealing of your true taste? If you’re dividing your streaming time between what’s safe to watch in front of others and what you’ll only catch on your mobile device, well, guess what? You’re exactly like everyone else.

Amazon shared some interesting data with Decider that reveals that viewers’ habits vary wildly between what they’ll watch on their smart phones and tablets versus what they’ll stream on the living room TV.

Amazon reported that they looked at the streaming habits of all Prime members in the United States over the last year and found that “reality TV shows, romantic dramas and comedies, teen shows and soap operas on Prime Video had more than half of their streams on mobile devices.” The highest rated shows in those genres were The Bachelor, Real Housewives, Sex and the City, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Vampire Diaries.

Amazon also found that when those same Amazon Prime Video members streamed shows in their living rooms, they opted to watch “children and family shows, documentaries, lifestyle shows, courtroom and crime dramas and comedies.” Amazon even suggested that these were shows their data suggested users were more “proud” to watch. Shows that fell into these more impressive genres “had 60% of their streams on living room devices.” Amazon said popular titles for living room streams included dramas like Bosch, Goliath, and This Is Us, as well as more family-friendly fare like SpongeBob SquarePants and Nature.

So don’t feel guilty about sneakily watching The Bachelor on your mobile device. Apparently, it’s far more common than you think…
