‘Set It Up’s Food Hood Proves You’ve Been Eating Popcorn Wrong

If there is anything millennials love more than avocado toast and being poor, it’s binge watching Netflix and eating way too much food. Oh that’s just me? Oh, okay. Cool.

Anyway, Netflix’s latest rom-com hit Set It Up came out this weekend, and besides being funny and wonderful and letting us ogle Taye Diggs, one of the best parts of the movie has to be when Harper (Zoey Deutch) swipes through her dating app while eating popcorn *hands free*!

Naturally, folks on the Internet freaked out that they had maybe been eating popcorn the wrong way this whole time. Bowls? For chumps! From the bag? Amateur hour! So what is this magical technique for eating popcorn that will make you feel as powerful as a horse, while eating from a feed bag, also like a horse?

This, my friends, is a technique called the “Food Hood”.

Netflix

If you aren’t a lazy 20-something, this may be the first time you are hearing about or seeing the Food Hood, pronounced either ‘fud hud’ or ‘foood hoood’ depending on your geographic location. It is actually very simple. You simply wear a hooded sweatshirt (zip up or pullover varieties will both work), and put on the garment backwards. Then, simply fill the hood, which is now hanging in front of your face, with any snack food that is light and small enough to be picked up with your mouth.

Popcorn is the classic; but I imagine chips would work as well. Snacks like M&Ms or tiny pickles would weigh down the hood, making it impossible to reach the food by simply bending your neck, which is, of course, the very premise that food hoods were created upon.

Food Hoods have long been the staple of the apathetic creative. As far back as 2015, Food Hoods have been seen in the dusty corners of the internet (places like 9gag and Reddit). But I, for one, am thrilled that this life hack to end all life hacks has finally breached the mainstream.

You can go watch Set It Up on Netflix with a Food Hood of your own. Put some nutritional yeast and truffle oil on that popcorn, and damn, girl, you’ve got a gourmet meal for one! Just remember to wash your hoodie afterwards.
