CBS Responds to ‘Big Brother’ Controversies, Promises “Future Consequences”

The new season of Big Brother has brought with it a new batch of controversies, ones that CBS has now addressed. In a statement released on Tuesday night, the network responded to two instances of “inappropriate behavior and offensive comments” that happened during the taping of Big Brother’s 20th season, saying that there will be “future consequences” if anything happens again.

The offenses, which were caught on camera as part of the show’s 24/7 live-feed, will not be part of the show’s primetime episodes. While CBS didn’t name the culprits, fans are pretty sure they know who CBS is talking about. Housemates Angela Rummans and Rachel Swindler were caught on the show’s 24-hour live cam making racial remarks, like when they used the term “ghetto” to refer to their tans and compared themselves to their African-American roommate Bayleigh Dayton.

As if that wasn’t enough, the live-cam also caught JC Mounduix trying to use an ice cream scooper on the genitals of his castmates (that is definitely not what that is for), and he also got handsy with a female houseguest.

CBS’ statement reads:

Big Brother is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 — and capturing every unfiltered moment and conversation in their lives. At times, the houseguests reveal prejudices and exhibit behavior that we do not condone. The producers have addressed two such incidents that were seen recently on the 24/7 online feed. In both cases, those involved have been warned about their inappropriate behavior and offensive comments, as well as future consequences. These events will not be part of any future Big Brother broadcast on CBS.”

The fifth episode of Season 20 airs tonight (July 5) on CBS. You’ll probably have to keep an eye on the 24/7 feed if you want to see any more potential controversial moments. Of course if a moment proves to be so controversial that a housemate has to leave the show, you’ll probably find out about that during the televised episodes. Only time will tell!
