Netflix Under Fire For Michelle Wolf’s Controversial “Salute To Abortion”

The impending retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has plenty of people in a tizzy. But, like, a serious tizzy–a tizzy that’s way more upsetting than the word “tizzy” implies. Why? Michelle Wolf explained why during a segment on this week’s episode of her Netflix talk show, The Break.

Talking about Justice Kennedy’s retirement, Wolf said that “although it’s great for his wrinkly head, it could be catastrophic for reproductive rights, because it’s almost certain Trump will try to replace him with someone who would overturn Roe v. Wade.” That would be a major setback for women in America because, Wolf explains, because the “pro-life” movement is propaganda created by men in order to control women from having a say in doing something that men can’t do: create life.

“I know some people call themselves ‘pro-life,’ but ‘pro-life’ is a propaganda term that isn’t real, like ‘healthy ice cream’ and ‘handsome testicles,'” said Wolf. She said that these people are actually anti-abortion, which Wolf says means they are anti-woman. “If these people were actually pro-life, they would be fighting hard for healthcare, childcare, education, gun control, and protecting the environment.” But pro-lifers don’t care about those issues, says Wolf, at least not as much as they care about birth and only birth.

But Wolf points out that by the age of 45, a quarter of all women have had an abortion, which means “they are super common and the stigma is bullshit.” Abortion clinics, Wolf argues, should be proud of the abortion services they provide–and abortions shouldn’t be accessible to only the wealthy.

Then, “in honor of America,” Wolf donned a patriotic majorette uniform and, flanked by a star-spangled marching band, she celebrated abortion with the joking titled “The Break’s 10th Annual Salute to Abortion.” The joke there is that The Break has barely been around for two months, let alone 10 years. The salute to abortion was very real, and very patriotic.

Wolf closed out the salute with a summation of her point and a handful of confetti: “And women, don’t forget: you have the power to give life and men will try to control that. Don’t let them!”

As intended, this display inflamed many on Twitter, leading to plenty of threatened Netflix cancellations:
