It’s another Friday and I know what you’re thinking: can we just stop it with all this work week-iness? Where’s the sleeping in? Where’s the staying up late? Not only that, but you can also rent the historical drama Chappaquiddick, which retells the true story of one of the Kennedy family’s tragedies. And as is tradition around these parts, I have to let you know when new Sam Neill movies are available on VOD. This week, that movie is Sweet Country which deals with justice and racism in 1920s Australia.

Sometimes you can’t go home again, especially if you’re a lot gay and if your home is super orthodox. Disobedience follows what happens when a woman (Rachel Weisz) returns to the community that once shunned her upon learning of her father’s sudden death. There she’s reunited with a childhood friend (Rachel McAdams) who, to be clear, was and potentially is more than just a friend. This acclaimed drama from the filmmaker behind the Academy Award-winning A Fantastic Woman will stick with you long after you watch it. Disobedience will be available to rent on July 17.

Future World
Love Mad Max but wish it had 100% more James Franco in it? Then go on and pay full price for the post-apocalyptic actioner Future World. The film, co-directed by Franco and screenwriter Bruce Thierry Cheung, is basically just that: a low-budget Mad Max riff with a robot (Suki Waterhouse) and, oh yeah, Milla Jovovich. Did I bury the lead here? Milla Jovovich kicking ass in a non-Resident Evil movie, that’s the real draw here. If you’re curious about Future World, you can buy it right now. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait a few weeks to rent this madness.

The Iron Giant
Before he masterminded Pixar greats like The Incredibles and Ratatouille (and also the you-can-never-praise-it-enough Mission: Impossible–Ghost Protocol), writer/director Brad Bird brought to life the animated masterpiece The Iron Giant. The film tells the story of a boy and his unlikely companion, a giant robot voiced by Vin Diesel. While the film was adored by critics, it failed to find an audience at the box office and was deemed a commercial failure. But who cares about that? 19 years later, The Iron Giant has become more than just a cult classic; it’s a legit classic, adored by audiences that have discovered it in the following years.
