Hollywood is mourning the loss of Jon Schnepp, director of the beloved Cartoon Network/Adult Swim series Metalocalypse. On Wednesday, Schnepp’s fiancée, Holly, shared on Instagram that the director had suffered a “catastrophic stroke” and was on life support, and she urged fans to donate to a GoFundMe to help pay for his medical care. Unfortunately, Schnepp was not able to overcome the complications of the stroke, and he passed away yesterday at the age of 51.

Schnepp is best known for his work on Metalocalypse, which ran for four seasons from 2006 to 2013. The animated series followed the fictional heavy metal band Dethlok as they perform on tours around the globe and battle an Illuminati-style group known as The Tribunal. During his time on the show, Schnepp served as a director, character designer, voice actor, and writer, and he quickly became known as one of the leading voices behind Metalocalypse.

In addition to his work on Metalocalypse, Schnepp has worked on a variety of Hollywood productions, including a “W is for WTF?” segment in The ABCs of Death and Adult Swim’s The Venture Bros. Most recently, Schnepp directed the successful documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, a film about the scrapped Superman installment starring Nicolas Cage. He was also a regular guest on Collider’s “Movie Talk,” a daily video series.

Schnepp is survived by Holly, his mother Miriam, his father David, and his sister Deborah, according to Bloody Disgusting. He will be remembered fondly in the industry by friends and colleagues, many of whom have taken to social media to wish his family well.

Rest in peace, Jon Schnepp.
