New Movies On Demand: ‘Tully,’ ‘Rampage,’ ‘Overboard,’ And More

If you can’t stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen–and since it’s the summer, you can safely assume that “the kitchen” is just anywhere outside. Wait, is that why they say it’s so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk? Wow, it’s all coming together! Anyway–why not spend your free time indoors with the AC blasting alongside a new movie. Sounds like a pretty cool plan, huh? There are so many new movies available to watch every week! Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu, or your cable’s on demand service, there are always a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover!

There is a whole lot to choose from this week, especially now that you can rent 2018 releases like the Amy Schumer comedy I Feel Pretty, the Wes Anderson animated feature Isle of Dogs, or Dwayne Johnson’s other big action movie Rampage. If you’re looking for something new, I highly recommend the British horror anthology film Ghost Stories, an old school chiller that features a delightfully grim performance from the dapper/adorable Martin Freeman.

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of family dramedies, wacky comedies, and scary thrillers now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Tully

Is being a parent harder than, I dunno, dealing with the inconsistent availability of classic sitcoms on streaming services? Oh… it is? It’s more emotionally taxing than the thing I stupidly fret about the most (why isn’t ALL of Taxi on Hulu?!)? Now I know–and I know thanks to Tully! Or, more accurately, the trailer for Tully, a dramedy about the relationship between a harried mother of three and the nanny she brings on to help her. The acclaimed film comes from the team that brought you Juno and Young Adult, director Jason Reitman and Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody. You can buy Tully and watch it right now digitally, but if you want to rent it, you’ll have to wait another week and a half. If you have kids, that should give you enough time to, I dunno, get a sitter? Or do you not need a sitter if you’re watching a movie at home? I have too many questions the Tully trailer cannot answer.

Overboard

This remake of the 1987 comedy of the same name, Anna Faris stars as a blue collar single mom who seizes the opportunity to live in the lap of luxury when she convinces an amnesiac millionaire that they are married. Yep, this is a gender-swapped Overboard which puts Faris in the role originally played by Kurt Russell! In the Goldie Hawn role is Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez. Should this movie have starred Kate Hudson, the equally adorable blonde actress that was raised by the stars of the original Overboard? You know what–maybe! Wouldn’t it have been a cool bit of trivia? But on the other hand, can you really say no to giving Anna Faris, star of CBS sitcom Mom, another big screen vehicle? You can’t! If you want to rent those laughs, you’ll be able to do so on July 31.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Your weekend is about to get a whole lot judgier. That’s because the formative action flick Terminator 2: Judgment Day (no “E”, weirdly, which always throws me off) is available to rent for just under a buck in iTunes! This follow-up to a comparatively quiet ’80s thriller blew up the box office when it arrived in 1991, packing in way more spectacle and special effects than people were expecting. Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise their iconic roles as Sarah Connor and the Terminator, with Robert Patrick making his debut appearance as the terrifying T-1000. If you find yourself leaving modern blockbusters shaking your head and muttering, “They just don’t make’em like they used to,” this is the movie you’re recalling indirectly.
