Guy Fieri Almost Had a Near Death Experience on ‘Shark Week’

It’s the best time of the year, the week (or however long Discovery decides to drag this out) when we take a step back and appreciate sharks. But a recent feeding special on Shark Week almost ended in a terrifying way. While diving with dozens of silky sharks in the middle of a feeding frenzy, Guy Fieri‘s primary air supply failed.

Thankfully the reality TV star and food lover emerged from the ordeal completely fine. But things were tense for a few minutes. As reported by Yahoo, the incident happened while in the middle of filming Guy Fieri’s Feeding Frenzy, a special for the animal-based holiday. The waters were chummed, and silky sharks and even some tuna were coming to the feast. Everything was going as planned. And then Fieri’s equipment started to give out on him.

One of the safety divers the Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives host was swimming with first noticed the air supply leak. The diver asked Fieri to check his gauge. When he realized that he was almost out of air, Fieri said, “Holy cow!”

Fieri and his fellow divers immediately went back to the surface and made it onto the boat unharmed. On the boat, the reality TV star can be seen gasping for air. If Fieri had spent any longer underwater, there’s a chance we could have a much worse story on our hands. Thank god for that one observant diver.

You can watch the dangerous dive on Yahoo if you want a jolt of anxiety this morning.
