'Charmed's Cast and Creators Are Paying Homage to the Original While Trying to Build Something New
Finally after 12 years of waiting and begging, fans are finally getting what they want. HBO has greenlit a Deadwood movie. The news comes from Casey Bloys during HBO’s executive session at the Television Critics Association’s summer tour.
“All of these people worked hard to get this together,” Bloys said. “It’s been a logistics nightmare getting all the cast members’ schedules together but we are there. It is greenlit.”
The movie is reportedly scheduled to begin filming in October and is looking at a 2019 air date. However, Bloys was quick to point out to hungry Deadwood fans that premiere date isn’t “set in stone.” Even if that spring prediction is wildly off base, this is still good news. We finally have an official confirmation for this movie people have been screaming about for over a decade.
Ever since the post-Civil War epic ended in 2006, fans have been practically begging for a movie. Rather than steadfastly shooting down the idea or wholeheartedly agreeing to it, HBO has played coy, teasing the possibility of this film. Just last year Bloys praised the script for the Deadwood movie, saying that it could “stand on its own.” Though it only lasted three seasons and 36 episodes, Deadwood is considered by many to be one of the best TV shows of all time. During its brief run the HBO drama earned 28 Emmy Award nominations and won eight awards.
Here’s hoping the Deadwood movie really happening this time. If this project gets stuck in production and development limbo again, there may be riots.
