Woman Crush Wednesday: Netflix Comedy Star Iliza Shlesinger Is Unapologetically Funny

It would be rude to say that this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday is comedy’s new “it” girl, because she done had been at the top of her game for quite some time. In honor of her new Netflix stand-up special, Elder Millennial, we think it is high time that Iliza Shlesinger got some (more) praise for her comedy stylings.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Iliza Shlesinger

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Like we said, Iliza Shlesinger is no stranger to the comedy scene. Way back in 2008 (omg that was ten years ago, can you believe?) Iliza became the youngest and only female winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, catapulting her to instant comedy fame. Since then, she has capitalized on her win and continues to make notable strides in the industry.

Her newest special, which just arrived on Netflix yesterday, is more of the same Iliza we have grown to love but her comedy has matured and her subject matter has shifted. She riffs on that uncomfortable and yet all too familiar gap between adolescence and adulthood, while belonging to a generation synonymous with youngness. Elder Millennial is relatable but it still is not a downer to watch, as so much comedy can be these days. Instead, it’s simply clever and unapologetically funny.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Since winning Last Comic Standing, Iliza now has a total of four Netflix stand up specials: War Paint, Freezing Hot, Confirmed Killsand of course her newest, Elder Millennial. In addition, she had a limited run talk show on Freeform called Truth & Iliza, as well as a book, Girl Logic, published in 2017.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Hot off the release of Elder Millennial, Iliza will be touring for the foreseeable future, and she has recently wrapped production on the new film Instant Family with Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg, set to premiere in February 2019.  Besides that, we know Iliza Shlesinger is a content machine who will be sure to wow us with something else very, very soon.
