Whats Leaving HBO August 2018: ‘Back To The Future,’ ‘West Side Story,’ and More

Months end and months begin. It is the circle of life. Or at least the circle of the calendar? Either way, as July gives way to August and terrible hot weather gives way to more terrible hotter weather, HBO’s streaming service will be letting go of a bunch of great movies you won’t want to miss.

This coming month, HBO subscribers will be losing the entire Back to the Future franchise: Back to the Future, Back to the Future Part II, and of course Back to the Future Part III. This is especially sad for anyone who loves watching people go back in time to make out with their moms. If that’s not your thing, I’m sure you can find something on this list that is!

Here are all the titles leaving HBO this month:

Leaving August 2:

Storks, 2016

Leaving August 31:

All Eyez on Me, 2017
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, 2009
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, 1999

Back to the Future, 1985

Okay so, full disclosure, I didn’t actually watch this movie until like 3 years ago during an 80’s movie marathon that I was forced to participate in. However, after seeing it, and moving past the weirdness that is this weird old man’s friendship with a teen boy, I loved it and I finally understand why, so many years later, it is still an iconic movie. An iconic movie with an iconic vest. Deloreans forever right?

Sex and the City, 2008

This movie is the epic continuation of the show of the same name, following four fabulous women through the exciting, sexy, drama filled world of New York City, baby! A movie following a long running and beloved TV show can often be a mistake but I would make the claim that this movie more than exceeded expectations. It is fun, light hearted, and the perfect filling for the Carrie Bradshaw shaped hole in our hearts.

West Side Story, 1961

*starts rhythmically snapping to the beat* This movie not only has stood the test of time, but is arguably the best movie adaptation of a Broadway show ever. The dancing is amazing, the songs are timeless, the costumes still provide style inspo daily. Yes, I know it is pretty messed up that they got Natalie Wood to play a Puerto Rican character but it was a long time ago. Still one of my favorite movies.
