The acting in superb (hello Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger), the scenery is breathtaking, and the subject matter is still as relevant as it ever was.

It follows the impoverished and yet “culturally rich” life of a Scottish heroin addict and his friends. The movie deals with addiction, recovery, and friendship in a profound and lasting way.
