Though everyone is talking about the Disney deal, there’s another threat looming over FX’s shoulder — the departure of Ryan Murphy. At the Television Critics Association’s 2018 summer tour, president John Landgraf addressed what’s going on with super-producer’s many shows.

Back in February, Murphy came forward with some shocking television news. He would be leaving FX to go to Netflix. It’s not possible for any one creator to define a network, but Ryan Murphy comes pretty close. His plastic surgery drama, Nip/Tuck, was an early hit, and American Horror Story has consistently remained one of the most watched shows on FX and cable.

Under this new deal, all of Murphy’s new projects will exclusively premiere on Netflix. That includes two new series the producer already has in production, The Politician and the One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest spin-off Ratched. Murphy and his team will continue to create new seasons of their FX shows, which include American Horror Story, American Crime Story, FEUD, and Pose. He and his team will also continue to create new seasons of 9-1-1 for Fox, bringing the grand total of ongoing Murphy shows up to eight.

In a TCA roundtable interview with other reporters, Landgraf gave some much anticipated news about the futures of two of Murphy’s most critically acclaimed shows, American Crime Story and FEUD.

FEUD‘s second season is supposed to explore the historically rocky relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles. “You know, ultimately we couldn’t get the material in the place that we wanted it,” Landgraf said when asked about the lack of news about this new season. “I’d say if you asked Ryan he would still say it’s an active series and that they’re developing and intending to do further cycles. He hasn’t told me this is the cycle I’m doing and this is when I’m doing it.

The much-discussed Katrina season of American Crime Story is in a better place though there isn’t a clear release date in mind. “My understanding is that they’ve seen scripts,” Landgraf said. “So much of it right now is Ryan’s — he kind of sets his own timetable. So I’m quite certain that American Horror Story and Pose are on an annual cycle.”

“With Crime Story and FEUD, they’ve kind of on the cycle of when is the material that’s developed that’s good enough,” he added. “I think there will be more cycles. I’m not in control of when they are.” The Katrina season was supposed to be the second season of the series, but it has been delayed multiple times. The Assassination of Gianni Versace replaced it in ACS‘ lineup.

As for the Monica Lewinsky season of American Crime Story, it seems like that has been scrapped. “It’s been on again, off again, on again. I think it’s on again right now. I couldn’t tell you if it’s off again permanently. I think between he and Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson they keep on actively talking about it,” he said.

Regardless of what happens in the long-term, there’s still more thrilling Murphy’ seasons planned for FX in the near future. Pose has already been renewed for a Season 2 and will likely premiere next summer, Landgraf said. And we all have American Horror Story: Apocalypse to terrify us on September 12.
