Congressman Scott Perry Posts Fake Sacha Baron Cohen Award On His Campaign Website

If you’ve been watching Sacha Baron Cohen’s new Showtime series Who Is America? then you are already familiar with the extent of his trickery to conduct debasing interviews with some of our country’s leading lawmakers.

Although he was never duped into an interview, Pennsylvania Congressman Scott Perry on Friday admitted to listing a “bogus” pro-Israel award from comedian Sacha Baron Cohen on his campaign website as one of his “awards and recognitions.”

According to The Hill, if you had perused the Republican lawmaker’s campaign website Patriots for Perry over the last few days, one of the more than two dozen awards posted is the “Yerushalayim Television, 2018 70 for 70 (Recognizing Friends of Israel).” And yes, his camp still hasn’t removed it from the site.

The fake award is the same one Cohen tricked former Representative Joe Walsh into receiving when he fell for the for the actor’s televised interview under the disguise of Israeli Colonel Erran Morad for Who is America?

Perry received multiple communications from fans and the media alike, calling him out for listing the false award, to which he responded on Facebook, admitting that the award doesn’t exist.

“After several attempts to interview me (all declined) for what we discovered was a mockery, this addition clearly got by,” he penned. “We’re human, we made an administrative mistake, and I own it.”
He added that he doesn’t feel this blunder was worth reporting by the media, who he criticized for doing so.

“But reporting this as newsworthy – which it’s far from – only further divides us, rewards those who not only try to humiliate in the name of entertainment, but also make a mockery of Israel (one of our closest Allies and of whom I’m a staunch supporter), and detracts from substantive issues that define a stronger community,” he stated.

Cohen has successfully tricked a number of government officials, mostly Republicans, as well as other politically-minded Americans for his new undercover series. Georgia lawmaker Jason Spencer was forced to resign after he exposed himself and used the “n-word” during a segment on Cohen’s series.
