‘Shameless’ Season 9 Will Air In Two Parts On Showtime

Shameless fans, you’re in for a treat. During their panel at the Television Critics Association summer tour, Showtime announced that Shameless Season 9 will feature 14 episodes. Sure, that’s only two more episodes than were included in the dark comedy’s previous eight seasons, but about ten million things happen in each 60-minute installment, so the extra two episode are sure to be action-packed.

In addition to giving Shameless Season 9 a 14-episode order, Showtime will also be airing the season in two parts. The first seven episodes will premiere on Sunday, September 9, and, like a traditional cable network, there will be a mid-season finale on Sunday, October 21. The second half of Season 9 will premiere on Sunday, January 20, 2019, and the Season 9 finale will air in March. This is the first time that Showtime has divided up Shameless’ episodes into two parts, but the decision makes sense: despite being in its ninth season, the show’s popularity is at an all-time high, likely due to the many new fans who have discovered the series on Netflix.

Shameless will continue to get political in Season 9, says Showtime. In Season 9, Frank (William H. Macy) begins working for campaigns to make some cash and give “voice to the underrepresented South Side working man,” Fiona (Emmy Rossum) tries to climb the economic ladder even more, and Lip (Jeremy Allen White) tries to stay sober by taking in Eddie’s niece Xan. As the three Gallagher “adults” deal with their own stuff, the younger family members face their own challenges: Ian deals with the fallout of his Gay Jesus movement, Debbie fights for equal pay and battles harassment at work, Carl commits himself to military school, and Liam struggles to stay survive outside of his fancy private school.

Shameless Season 9 promises to be “certified vagina safe,” so don’t miss a single second of the action. And by “action,” we mean all the action Frank’s been getting in the PTA group.
