The new full-length trailer for season 2 of the HBO drama The Deuce is out, and it looks like life is good for Candy Darling (Maggie Gyllenhaal) as we move into the disco era. Yes, there’s a five-year time jump between season 1 and season 2: it’s now 1977, and Candy is directing porn movies and in the position she wants to be in, which is in control of her life and career.

Along for the ride are twin brothers Vince and Frankie, both played by James Franco. Yes, folks, he’s still on the show, despite sexual harassment allegations that were levied against him in 2017. Executive producer David Simon has said that there were no complaints about Franco on the set of the show, so he felt there was no reason to cut him from season 2.

While it seems that the porn business in the late ’70s is more legitimate than it was in the early ’70s, keep in mind that we’re still in the era before Times Square was Disneyfied; in fact, 1977 is the era of “The Bronx Is Burning,” where almost all of New York City was in turmoil. So the contrast between the old dirty New York, the Studio 54 disco scene and the burgeoning porn industry should be an interesting one.

Season 2 of The Deuce premieres September 9 on HBO.
