New Movies On Demand: ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ ‘Book Club,’ ‘Tag,’ And More

It’s mid-August and that means one thing: summer movies on VOD! Yep, that’s it, that’s the one thing that happens in mid-August. With a 3-month turnaround from theatrical runs to home arrivals, you can still watch summer 2018 movies in summer 2018. What a world we live in! Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu, or your cable’s on demand service, there are always a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover!

The biggest event of the summer, Avengers: Infinity War, is now available to rent for all of you that haven’t experienced the laughter and tears (oh, there will be tears). What are you waiting for? The biggest brawl of the season is now (temporarily) yours for a fraction of the cost! But if the blockbuster action genre isn’t your thing, just keep on scrolling because there are more summer movies waiting for you.

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of mature comedies, informative documentaries, and thrillers now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Book Club

Psssshh–you think Avengers: Infinity War was the biggest crossover event of the summer? Uh, did you see Book Club? Diane Keaton! Jane Fonda! Candice Bergen! Mary Steenburgen! Four legendary ladies, sipping wine and reading Fifty Shades of Grey, now that’s a blockbuster! Plus, this is quite possibly the only feature film to feature a Craig T. Nelson boner joke, so… watch it today on VOD. Of course you’ll need to pay full price to stream Book Club right now, as it’s only available for purchase. You’ll have to wait until August 28 to rent it. Don’t worry, Book Club will be there for you just like the ladies in this movie are there for each other.

Tag

On the other end of the comedy spectrum from Book Club is Tag, an all-male ensemble flick about a group of dudes playing the most intense game of tag in history. Also, it’s based on a true story, because of course a group of adult men spending decades playing tag actually happened! The film stars Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, and Jeremy Renner, who famously broke both of his arms while making this movie and not an Avengers one. When you watch Tag, keep an eye out for Renner’s CG arms!

Lost in Space

If you loved Netflix’s Lost in Space, you should check out the 1998 feature film also based on the campy ’60s sci-fi classic. Okay, I say “should” when I guess I really mean “could.” Lost in Space might have the historical distinction of being the film to finally dethrone Titanic from the top of the box office, but it wasn’t exactly well-reviewed. The super late ’90s cast (Matt LeBlanc! Heather Graham! Lacey Chabert!) is fun to watch, but the film itself gets weirdly dark and involves a lot more spiders than you ever want to see. But you know what? It’s worth renting for $0.99 in iTunes, especially if you want to see that Lost in Space charm through a grim and gritty filter.
