New Shows & Movies To Watch This Weekend: The Final Season of Netflix's 'Vikings: Valhalla' + More
After a controversial yet riveting display at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner by comedian Michelle Wolf in April and in today’s political climate, Netflix’s The Break with Michelle Wolf had every reason to be a hit recurring talk show. The same goes for The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale. The former Community star had previous talk show success as host of Talk Soup, which had garnished a large following.
Unfortunately, however, it doesn’t appear that Netflix was necessarily the right outlet for these two comedians, as the platform has parted ways with both shows after just one season each. The streaming giant has decided not to go ahead with second seasons due to lack of viewership, according to sources close to Deadline.
While Wolf certainly made headlines and attracted media attention via her show with her incessant political jabs, even comparing Ivanka Trump to herpes during one episode, cord cutters were simply not as interested.
The decision to cancel McHale may come as a surprise, considering the streaming service had just recently ordered an additional six episodes after the show’s 13-episode launch in March. The Break aired in May and ran for 10 weeks, coming to a close on July 29 with its finale.
Netflix’s remaining comedy talk shows include Jerry Seinfeld‘s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee which had originally debuted on Crackle and My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. Only the future can tell if these series will remain a success.
