Watch Al Sharpton Completely Butcher The Spelling of ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T’’ On MSNBC

During an appearance on MSNBC, Al Sharpton completely butchered the spelling of the word “respect” while referencing a song by his late friend Aretha Franklin to criticize the ongoing Donald TrumpOmarosa feud.

Franklin, who died last week at the age of 76, was well known for her influential singing career, and in particular, her song “Respect” during which she spells the titular word during its chorus. While attacking President Donald Trump for calling former White House aide Omarosa Manigault-Newman a “dog” on MSNBC Sunday, Sharpton demanded more deference from POTUS for African Americans.

After referencing a number of instances where Trump has used the word “dog” to describe an African American, including in reference to NFL players who have refused to stand for the national anthem, the reverend stated “In the words of my late friend Aretha Franklin, show some ‘R-E-S-P-I-C-T.’ ”

Sharpton’s blunder came at the end of his segment, the tone of which was nothing new since the vocal civil rights activist has been quoted referring to Trump as a “blowhard” and an “embarrassment,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Last week, Sharpton remembered Aretha Franklin following her death, making mention of her contributions as a civil rights activist in an essay he penned for Billboard. “There are superstars, and then there are humanitarians — Aretha somehow encapsulated both,” he said. He also tweeted a clip of an old interview he had with Franklin on Politics Nation where the late “Queen of Soul” spoke about knowing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and singing at the inauguration ceremony for the first black president, Barack Obama.
